The nominees for the Local Government IT Excellence Awards have been announced, with two organisations in the running for the shared services award.

Run by Intellect, Socitm and Solace, the awards are in their 13th year and aim to recognise local authorities that have used IT systems or processes to improve the efficiency and delivery of services, Public Technology reports.

Hampshire county council and Northern Ireland Civil Service have been nominated in the shared services category.

The Hampshire Regional Recruitment Portal has seen 12 local authorities join forces to deliver a single technology solution to manage the recruitment process.

In Northern Ireland the IT Assist was set up to provide ICT services to 11,000 users across eleven departments.

Martin Hill-Wilson, head of strategy at sponsor Datapoint, commented: "The awards provide an excellent opportunity to recognise local authorities that have used IT effectively and innovatively to deliver services."

Earlier this month local government minister Dr Brian Gibbons said shared services can be better for the public.

He told the Welsh Local Government Association's annual conference that change and improvement is necessary and inevitable.ADNFCR-1942-ID-18829972-ADNFCR
